RDPWin Version 3 Installation/Upgrade


The following instructions are to be completed with the help of RDP support.

# RDPWin Version 3 Installation Checklist
1 Verify the customer has completed all steps  in the Pre-Installation Checklist for Customers
2 Confirm Microsoft .Net 3.5 SP1 is installed on all computers including the RDP data server
3 Update RDP DOS
Disable the IRM.Net
5 Log on to the RDP data server using the administrator password
6 Lock users out of RDP
7 Uninstall RDPWin 2 Client
8 Uninstall RDPWin 2 Server
9 Install RDPWin 3 Server on the data server
10 Add the Admin/RDP/CC Admin user information
11 Rebuild Files and Indexes
12 Allow users into RDPWin
13 Create RDP User Account
14 Run the RDPWin client Setup.exe on the individual work stations/terminal servers per user profile.
15 Install RDPWinCrystal10 DLLs on the individual work stations/terminal servers
16 Verify that RDPWinMonitorPath exists and the RDPWinMonitor is configured
17 Set Network Administrator password for Reset Availability
18 Set RDP to use RDPWin's Reset Availability
19 Update to IRM.Net Version 3
20 Deleted old GDS text files
21 Update RDP Records that Version 3 is installed

Confirm Microsoft .Net 3.5 SP1 is Installed on All Computers Including the RDP Data Server

RDPWin Version 3 requires that Microsoft .Net Framework version 3.5 with service pack 1 be installed on all workstations and servers running RDPWin.  If a workstation is not used for RDPWin, it is not necessary to install .Net framework.

To verify the .Net 3.5 Framework version complete the following:

  1. Select Add or Remove Programs from your desktop's Start --> Settings --> Control Panel submenu.
  2. Scroll down the list of installed programs and verify that Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 or higher is installed.
  3. For more information about .Net or to download the latest version, see:  http://www.microsoft.com/net/.

Note:  If Microsoft .Net 3.5 SP1 Framework is not installed on the computers,  DO NOT PROCEED WITH THE UPGRADE. INSTALL .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 BEFORE CONTINUING. The install program will download it from the Internet.  This happens automatically, and only the first time, as long as there is an Internet connect for the computer on which the installation is taking place.  If there is no Internet connection, the framework can be downloaded and installed manually.  Download the Microsoft 3.5 SP1 framework

Update RDP DOS

Download and install the RDP DOS update. Click here for update instructions and the RDP DOS download.

Disable IRM.Net

No reservations or transactions should be added to the system during the conversion process.  To disable the IRM.Net,

  1. Log onto the IRM Server.
  2. Start RDPWin.
  3. Navigate to the IRM.Net | Configuration | Misc Tab.
  4. Select IRM.Net Unavailable (Maintenance Mode).

Login to the RDP Data Server as Administrator

The domain administrator password is required for initial setup. Do not proceed to schedule an install of RDPWin Version 3 until you have the domain administrator password.

Disconnect/Lock Users Out of RDPWin

During the update, all users must be removed/locked out of the system for an extended period of time.  Use the following steps to notify and remove users.
  1. Logon to the Data Server as Administrator.
  2. Day End/Night Audit | Monitor Users.
  3. Select Lock/Unlock RDP Tab.
  4. Configure a message that RDPWin will be down for an update.
  5. Disconnect unresponsive users.
  6. Lock users out of the system.
  7. Verify all users have exited RDP.
  8. Log out of RDPWin.

Uninstall RDPWin 2 Client

Uninstall RDPWin 2 Client from all workstations and servers
  1. Start Menu --> Settings --> Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Scroll to and select RDPWin 2 Client
  3. Click the Remove button.
  4. Uninstall all versions of RDPWin 2 Client.

Uninstall RDPWin 2 Server

Uninstall RDPWin 2 Server
  1. Start Menu  --> Settings --> Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Scroll to and select RDPWin 2 Server.
  3. Click the Remove button.
  4. Uninstall all versions of RDPWin 2 Server.

Run RDPWin 3 Server Update

  1. Log onto the server as Administrator.
  2. Run the RDPWin 3 Server update.
  3. Browse to ..\rdpnt\rdp\RDPWinClient folder.
  4. Run the Setup.exe.
  5. Browse to ..\rdpnt\rdp\rdp01,rdp02, etc., folder.
  6. Rename Users.dat  to Users.old.
  7. Click here for more information on how to install the Server Update and run the Setup.exe.
  8. Setup.exe - Possible Error.

Add the Admin/RDP/CC Admin user information

At initial login to RDPWin Version 3, the system converts the RDP-DOS User List (PW table) to the Users.dat File.  Once converted, the ADMIN user information (login/password) must be added to the system.  Make sure the customer saves the password.
  1. Start RDPWin on the data server.  No username or password is necessary.
  2. Click OK to Convert RDP Users List.
  3. Enter a password n the Password and Verify Password fields. Passwords require between 7 and 15 characters and must contain at least one number, one uppercase and one lowercase letter. This is a temporary password.  Enter Initials “AA” with power level of 999, Save.
  4. Click OK at the RDP-DOS User List Converted notice.
  5. Login as Admin and enter a new password to replace the temporary password. Passwords require between 7 and 15 characters and must contain at least one number, one uppercase and one lowercase letter.
  6. Enable User Type “Administrator” and “Credit Card Administrator" for appropriate users.

Rebuild Files and Indexes

To rebuild files and indexes in RDPWin:

  1. Go to the System main menu --> File Utilities --> Rebuild Files and Indexes.
  2. Select the radio All Critical Files button.
  3. Under the Rebuild Options, select Rebuild Files and Indexes.
  4. Click Process.
  5. The warning indicates that this process can take upwards of 2-3 hours (the usual amount of time is 10 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the data). Click Continue.

Unlock Users

  1. Log onto the data server as Administrator.
  2. Day End/Night Audit | Lock/Unlock Logon.
  3. Click the Allow Users in RDP button.
  4. Log out of RDPWin.
  5. Users need to login with username and no password, Logon as shown below.
  6. Users must enter complex password for Password and Verify Password. 
    (Requirements:  7-15 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number.)
     
  7. Save & Close.

Create RDP User

Create the RDP user account, setting the password to 123Pdr789.

Run RDPWin Client Setup.exe on Individual Workstations/Terminal Servers

Setup.exe must be run once on all workstations and terminal servers that access RDP. 

  1. Browse to ..\rdpnt\rdp\RDPWinClient folder.
  2. Run the Setup.exe.
  3. Login to RDPWin and verify that the workstation was updated correctly.
  4. Click HERE for information on setting up a new RDPWin Work Station.

Install Crystal DLL's on Individual Workstations/Terminal Servers

The Crystal DLLs only need to be installed once on every workstations/terminal server that runs RDP.  The Crystal DLLs are installed into the C:\Program Files\Common directory

RDPWin Monitor

In Version 3, the RDPWin Monitor sends all IRM.Net confirmations and processes statistics. 

  1. Verify that the RDPWinMonitorPath exists and is correct.
  2. Verify that the RDPWin Monitor is configured and running.
  3. Configure RDPWin Monitor Confirmations.
  4. Inform customer that the RDPWin monitor sends all email confirmations/owner statements.
  5. Configure the RDPWin Monitor Statistic Settings.

Set Network Administrator Password for Reset Availability

Set the network administrator password in RDPWin so the night auditor can access the Reset Availability program (DTO user). This program accesses the Pervasive Monitor functions. It allows the night auditor to remove any locked users before running the Reset Availability. The password only needs to be entered one time, and it will be saved in the program for future access to the Monitor.

  1. In RDPWin, go to the System menu --> File Utilities --> Add DTO User.

  2. Enter the Pervasive Administrator Logon and password.

Set RDP to Use RDPWin's Reset Availability

Set RDP to use RDPWin's Reset Availability program:

  1. In RDPWin, go to the Night Audit/Day End menu --> Configuration.
  2. On the Night Audit/Day End tab, check the Use RDPWin's Reset Availability --> Save & Close
  3. Demonstrate to the customer how the feature works. See How to Reset Availability. Note: Make sure the customer shows the night audit how to perform these steps.

Troubleshooting

If after updating to RDPWin an error displays "This Station Number is already in use", check the ODBC connections in Pervasive.  Delete or fix any invalid RDP databases.

Update IRM.Net to Version 3

  1. Click HERE for information on how to update the IRM.Net
  2. Log onto the IRM Server, start RDPWin, and navigate to the IRM.Net | Configuration | Misc Tab
  3. Select the IRM.Net Available radio button.

Delete Old GDS Text Files

If using the 1-way GDS interface, delete old text files. These files do not have masked credit card information, and therefore are not PCI compliant.

  1. Navigate to the RDPNT folder on the RDP mapped drive (r:\ drive, f:\ drive, etc) in Windows Explorer.
  2. Click the RDP folder.
  3. Click the GDS folder.
  4. Deleted the contents of the folder and the contents of the Errors folder.

Update OnTime

  1. Log into OnTime.
  2. Click on Customers Tab and search for customer.
  3. Click on Edit Icon.
  4. Click on System Info tab.
  5. Change RDP Version to RDPWin 3.x.
