RDPWin Help File Not Displayed

Added 6/27/2005
Article ID#: KWin0011
Modified 2/04/2011 MC

Overview

When viewing the RDPWin help file, the help file pane may have either of the following messages:

Action Cancelled
Not Allowed - Security

This error is caused by a security update from Microsoft.  The error only occurs on systems accessing the RDPWin help file on a network drive.  This error does not occur if the help file is on the workstation.  See the Microsoft knowledge base article 896054. There are 2 possible solutions listed below.

Solution 1

To fix this issue without an update, RDP Support provides a fix to the registry as follows:

  1. Download CHMHelpFileFix.reg from the "ftp://ftp.resortdata.com/public/programs" folder.
  2. Save this file in the RDP root folder (normally R:\RDP).
  3. From each workstation, double click on this file and confirm the change to the registry.
  4. Restart RDPWin and the help file should be displayed correctly.

Note:  If the above solution doesn't fix the problem, do the following steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions

  1. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify
  2. In the Value data box, type 3, and then click OK.
  3. Quit Registry Editor
  4. Restart RDPWin and the help file should be displayed correctly.

Solution 2

  1. Download HHReg.exe.
  2. Run the program.
  3. Click the General Security Tab.
  4. Change the drop down to 2=Trusted Zone Sites.
  5. Open Internet Explorer.
  6. Tools --> Internet Options --> Security tab.
  7. Click Local Intranet.
  8. Click Sites.
  9. Click Advanced.
  10. Enter file:\\dataservername, and click Add.
  11. Click Close --> Ok --> Ok.
  12. Close RDPWin completely and log back in. The RDPWin help file should display properly.
