Survey Module Requirements

The survey module requirements are as follows:

  • Dedicated Windows Server 2003 or 2008 with IIS, Pervasive, SMPT, and .Net Framework 3.5. If the IRM.Net is already installed, the survey module may be installed and configured on this computer. RDP does NOT recommend using the RDP data server due to possible security issues.
  •  Installation of IRM.Net programs by following the steps below. If the IRM.Net is already installed and configured, steps below have already been completed.
  • Static IP address. If the IRM.Net is installed and live, the survey module can use the same static IP.
  • Open port 80 on the firewall.
  • SSL is NOT required for the survey module, but is required for the IRM.Net.

Contact RDP Support

One of the major goals of RDP support is install product smoothly. The process is as follows:
  1. Create a Web Support Ticket and request the preferred update date/time.  RDP's Support Department will check the schedule to make sure we are completely available for you.
  2. RDP Support will confirm the installation date and time.  In some cases, the installation of the IRM.Net and survey module may also require an update to the RDPWin product.  If this is required, we will let you know.
  3. To start the installation, create a Web-X connection from your IRM.Net Server.  RDP Support will connect to this session, perform the IRM.Net and survey installation.
  4. RDP Support will notify you when the installation is complete.

1. Verify the Server Configuration

The survey module is designed to exchange a great deal of information with the data server.  This communication cannot function reliably without the proper hardware installation of the survey computer and Data Server. 

  1. Log into the IRM/Survey server as the administrator.
  2. Verify the server meets with RDP's Hardware Requirements.
  3. Verify the most recent RDPDOS update is installed.
  4. Verify the most recent RDPWin Version 3 update is installed.
  5. Verify the Pervasive Client Version 10 or higher is installed.
  6. Verify that .Net Framework 3.5 is installed. Do not remove Microsoft .Net 1.1 if it exists.

2.  Download & Install the IRM.Net

  1. Create a folder called IRMSetup folder on the C drive of the IRM/Survey server.
  2. Download the latest IRM.Net  Version 3 to this folder.
  3. Install IRM.Net according to these instructions: IRMNet Version 3 or IRMNet Version 2. This IRM.Net programs contain the necessary components for the survey module.
    Warning: Do NOT change the destination folder of the installation. The files must be installed to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\IRMNet\. Changing this locations will cause the IRM.Net to stop working. Do NOT rename the IRM.Net virtual directory.  The IIS virtual directory and application must be named IRMNet and must be directed to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\IRMNet folder.

Create the IRMNetPath.txt File

  1. Create the "IRMNetPath.txt" file.  From the Start menu, select Run.   Enter Notepad in the Open field, and click OK.
  2. Type in the UNC path to the data server and appropriate RDP directory - \\RDP2003a\RDPNT\RDP\RDP01.
    See Alternate Data Servers for information on how to use the IRM.Net with more than one data server.
  3. Save the file as IRMNetPath.txt in the following location:  "C:\Program Files\ResortDataProcessing\IRMNet\.  It may be necessary to create the IRMNet folder.

3. Select ASP.Net version 2.0

  1. Select Internet Information Services (IIS) from the Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools menu.
  2. Expand the local computer.
  3. Expand Websites.
  4. Right-click Default Website and select Properties.
  5. Click the ASP.NET tab and verify or update the version to 2.0.  If the version displayed is something other than 2.0.50727, click the drop-down arrow and change the Version to 2.0.50727.

4.  Set the IRM.Net Application Pool

  1. Select Internet Information Services (IIS) from the Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools menu.
  2. Expand Default Web Site.
  3. Right click on IRMNet and select Properties.
  4. Choose RDPAppPool (IRM.Net AppPool for version 2) from the Application Pool dropdown. Click OK.
  5. Right click on RDPWinCentralSvc and select Properties.
  6. Choose RDPAppPool (IRM.Net AppPool for version 2) from the Application Pool dropdown. Click OK.

5.  Select and Configure IRM.Net Identity

  1. Select the IRM.Net identity model.
  2. Configure for Network Service, Custom User or Impersonation identity.
  3. Restart IIS.
  4. Using Internet Explorer, browse to localhost/irmnet/irmtest.aspx.
  5. The path to the data files should be filled in with the text from the irmpath.txt file.
  6. Run all tests (except e-mail) and verify that they pass.
  7. If not, then configure for the alternate identity model and retest with irmtest.aspx.

6. Configure SMTP

  1. Select Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 from the Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools menu.
  2. Expand the computer name and right-click the SMTP icon and select Properties.
  3. On the Access tab Click Connection.
  4. Select Only the list below.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Select Group of Computers.
  7. Add Subnet Address  i.e. 192.168.43.0 (user ipconfig from a command prompt to determine local ip address).
  8. Add Subnet Mask, i.e. 255.255.255.0.
  9. On the Access tab Click Relay.
  10. Select Only the list below radio button.
  11. Click Add.
  12. Select Group of Computers.
  13. Add Subnet Address  i.e. 192.168.43.0.
  14. Add Subnet Mask, i.e. 255.255.255.0 .
  15. Uncheck the box to "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" when in the relay section.
  16. Go to Administrator Tools/Server Manager/Configuration/Services and change SMTP to be Automatic.

7. Configure RDPWin Monitor Confirmations

Surveys can be sent out automatically upon check-in or check-out. This requires the configuration of the RDPWin Monitor.

  1. On the data server, access c:\Program Files\ResortDataProcessing\RDPWin folder.
  2. Use Notepad to create the file "MonitorPath.txt", if it does not already exist.
  3. Add a line with the local, non-mapped drive path to the rdp01 folder, for example: c:\rdpnt\rdp\rdp01.
  4. From RDPWin (System --> RDPWinMonitor --> Monitor Reservations), Stop RDPWin Monitor (if already running).
  5. From RDPWin, Start RDPWin Monitor. The first message in the RDPWin Monitor Log should display "RDPMonitor service started."
  6. Under Reporter --> Configuration --> Confirmation Settings tab, configure reservation confirmations (if not already done).
  7. Under Reporter --> Configuration --> Confirmation Associations tab, associate the New reservation type for with a confirmation to be used by RDPWin Monitor. Complete this for all desired Reservation Types.
  8. From System --> RDPWin Monitor --> Configuration, check the box for IRM and any other boxes that would apply.
  9. Configure the RDPWin Monitor service for Auto-Restart.

8. Test IRM.Net

In RDPWin, navigate to IRM.Net Configuration -> Misc tab and check the Demonstration Mode checkbox and uncheck "Use Secure Connection".
The checkbox for Demonstration Mode is used for testing customer files.  The Demonstration Mode bypasses credit card processing and the SSL certificate. The checkbox for Use Secure (SSL) Connection is used for testing an SSL certificate, and this checkbox is only available when Demonstration Mode is checked.

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. Browse to the IRM.Net test page http://localhost/irmnet/irmtest.aspx.
  3. The path to the data files should be filled in with the text from the irmpath.txt file.
  4. Run all tests and verify that they pass.

9.  Configure Surveys

10. Open Port 80 in Firewall

Open port 80 on the firewall.
