Status 1021 from Workgroup engine on Windows XP with NTFS if logged on as user other than Administrator

Added 8/08/2003 - Article ID#: K000174

When using the RDP System on a local workstation running Windows 2000 or XP it is essential to logon as a user who is a member of the Administrators group for the local workstation and that the workstation be a member of the same domain as the RDP Data server.  If not a variety of errors may occur:

  • Status 1021 from Workstation/Workgroup engine on Windows XP with NTFS if logged on as user other than Administrator.
  • System may beep when logging onto local workstation
  • PVSW.LOG may show message: The file LAST_SEG.LOG cannot be opened in the log segment directory
  • PVSW.LOG may not be updated
  • Status 1021: The MicroKernel Failed to Initialize

Problem Environment

  • Pervasive.SQL 2000i WS
  • Service Pack 4
  • Pervasive.SQL 2000i WG
  • Service Pack 4
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft NTFS Volume

Cause of this problem

Permissions are too restrictive for user other than the built in Administrator to create or update files

Solution:

Log into the local workstation as someone as a member of the administrators group.

You may have to un-install and re-install Pervasive if the problem still occurs.

Note: There are special steps required to install Pervasive on Citrix or Terminal Server.  See Pervasive Work Group Engine Required, Run as Service on Citrix/Terminal Server.  The work group engine can be purchased from RDP by calling RDP Sales.

Warning:  64-bit workstations are not supported for call accounting, phone actuator, maid phone, voicemail, and point sale interface computers. These programs still require the use of 16-bit MS DOS program, which is not supported on 64-bit machines. 32-bit operating systems are supported for interfaces.
